Series Programs:

Registration is required for programs marked with an * although guests are welcome if space is available.  Please call (585)394-1381 for more details on any program and to register.

Creature Feature
Mondays at 10:30
June 28 - August 16

The Wildlife Defenders will be here every Monday morning to introduce a special animal guest. 

And if Mondays don't fit in your schedule, mark your calendar for August 21 at 11 AM when we'll have an encore presentation of many of the weekly animals.

Combine a great book with a craft and you've got our popular Monday afternoon for children going into grades 1-3.  Listen to a story read by Children's Librarian Mrs. Ferris and then make a fun project to go with it.  You won't want to miss the fun so come every week!  Teens interested in volunteering should see Mrs. Ferris in the Children's Room.

The Big Splash Hour  
Tuesdays 2:30 - 3:30 PM
June 29 - August 17

How creative can YOU be?  Check out our special weekly program for kids going into grades 4 -6.  We'll be exploring ways to have fun through art, science, food, games, and books.  Bring a friend and join us (no program 7/6 or 7/13)


Preschool Storytime

June 30 - August 19      
Our summer series of stories and more for children 3-5 years old begins June 30.  The half-hour sessions feature puppets, stories from picture books, fingerplays, action rhymes, songs, and a flannelboard story or rhyme on a weekly theme.  Children are encouraged to participate on their own, but parents are always welcome to enjoy the program with their child.

Each class is limited to 25 children and registration is required.   Registration begins Monday, June 21.

Pajama Storytime
Wednesday nights at 7:00
June 30 - August 18

What could be better than listening to stories in your jammies?  Children 3 -7 years old are invited to follow the paw print path to the Community Room for stories, songs, a movie and some flannelboard fun.  Parents are invited to enjoy the program with their children.

Mother Goose Time
Friday, June 4
10:15 or 11:00 a.m.

Join us for 20 minutes of language fun for 6-24 month
 olds along with their Moms or Dads.  Each session features nursery rhymes, songs, bounces, stretches, fingerplays, and a short story.  This program is offered once a month, generally on the first Friday, with 2 developmental sessions:


The Walkers class (if your child is walking) is at 10:15 and includes more active participation. 

Pre-walkers meet at 11:00 for rhymes, lap-bounces, stretches, and songs. 

Classes will also be offered on July 2, and August 6.  Registration is required. Sign-up begins the week before the program.  Call or stop in the library to get on the list!

Children's Services               

Wood Library offers a variety of programs for children throughout the year.  Information on current programs appears above or click here to go to the Wood Library's Events Calendar.  Call the library (585) 394-1381 or stop at the downstairs checkout desk for more details or to sign up. 

Registration is required for any marked with *.  Sign-up generally begins the week before the program and can be done in person at the library or by phone.

Mother Goose Time *
A 20 minute language enrichment program for 6 - 24 month olds featuring nursery rhymes, songs, and activities.

Time for Twos *
2 year olds and their parents can enjoy simple stories, songs, and fingerplays in this 20 minute program

Preschool Storytime *
A 30 minute program of stories, songs, puppets, fingerplays, and the flannelboard especially for 3, 4, and 5 year olds.

Familytime *
A nighttime story program offered to fit the schedule of working parents and their 3 - 5 year olds.

Pajama Storytime
Children 3 - 8 years old are invited to come to the library in their pajamas for stories and fun; parents are invited to join their children. This evening program is offered during the summer as well as during National Library Week and before Christmas.

Summer Reading Clubs
Wood Library offers 3 special ways for children to keep reading and enjoying books during the summer months: a Read-to-Me club for preschoolers, a club for children going into grades 1-3 to help them maintain their reading skills during their vacation months, and a club for 4th - 6th graders to help them discover new genres and explore the fun they can have through books.

Special Events
The Children's Department offers special programs for children and their families throughout the year.  These programs will be advertised on our website and calendar of events, in the media, and in the library.  Call (585) 394-1381 for details.

It's time to bring in those paperbacks you've read & enjoyed to trade them for ones other kids have liked.  Save your $ - just trade them 1 for 1.  Books should be in good condition and intended for children in grades kindergarten - 5.

Hey - It's the
Bubble Man!

Friday July 2

To kick off our Make a Splash summer reading theme, the whole family is invited to enjoy an amazing program by Doug Rougeux, also known as The Bubble Man! He's known for creating intricate and beautiful bubble sculptures (such as the bubble carousel and bubble-in-a-bubble), giant bubbles three feet in diameter, bubble tubes twelve feet long, the bubble cube, an the breathtaking child in a bubble!

GROSSOLOGY

We're putting a twist on science to concoct some really yucky stuff like bogus blood, fake barf, and boogers on a stick - euwww!  This program is not for the faint-hearted. For kids going into grades 4 - 6. 

 Register beginning June 28 and be sure to wear your old clothes to the program – it could get messy! ______________________

Leggo My Legos!

Friday, July 30
2:00 - 3:30 PM
grades 1 - 6

Sign up to come & spend the afternoon building whatever you want!  Registration is required as we have to limit the program to the first 80 children who sign up.  Registration begins on Monday, June 28 at the library or by calling (585) 394-1381.

(Leave your own Legos home.  We'll be using Mrs. Ferris's collection!)
